CNC Machinist

Jennifer Griffiths Recruitment are seeking to appoint a CNC Machinist for our manufacturing client based in Cardiff.

In this role, you will operate and maintain CNC machines to produce precision parts and components. Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate machinery and tools including manual lathes, mills and grinders as well as CNC equipment, to produce components accurately to drawing, specification and required tolerance
  • Set and programme CNC machinery where applicable, selecting appropriate tooling, feeds and speeds to achieve the required dimensions, tolerances and finish.
  • Produce and maintain masking, jigs and fixtures required to support processes, working closely with Pre-Production and Engineering to agree requirements.
  • Restore dimensions, removing excess material and preparing surfaces to specification ahead of processing.
  • Carry out finished-product quality checks using appropriate measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, gauges and, where required, CMM), recording results accurately.
  • Follow SOP’s, work instructions and process specifications (MPP’s) accurately, escalating any discrepancy in drawings, tolerances or specifications before proceeding.
  • Maintain machinery, tooling and the work area carrying out routine checks and basic maintenance, and reporting faults promptly to minimise production downtime.
  • Work safely at all times following health & safety and PPE requirements, and maintaining accurate production and quality records to support traceability and audit requirements

Essential Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience operating manual and/or CNC machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders) within a manufacturing or precision engineering environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances and specifications accurately.
  • Experience machining a variety of metals and alloys
  • Working knowledge of CNC setting or programming, or a willingness to learn.
  • Competent using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, gauges) and recording quality data accurately.
  • Experience producing or maintaining tooling, jigs, fixtures or masking to support production processes.
  • Ability to work carefully and methodically, following set processes and procedures, with strong attention to detail.
  • Good problem-solving skills, able to identify and resolve minor machining or process issues.
  • A recognised machining qualification (e.g. NVQ or apprenticeship in Machining/Engineering) is desirable but not essential.

Salary: £29,000 to £30,000 per annum

Hours: Monday to Friday, Days
